my favorite mother daughter dancing duo
I’m thinking of putting up photos I’ve taken of people I know every week. I have so many special friends that do so many interesting things that I’d like to feature them. I thought of Mallory and Tiana after writing about the Lakota women’s ceremony earlier in the week. I thought about this mother and daughter because they share so many things together - dance, cooking,...

doing it different
I just left Kaiser in Redwood City, feeling frustrated and drained this afternoon. As I was driving down Hiway 92 to Half Moon Bay, I tuned into KPFA 94.1 which was airing Bay Native Circle. On the radio I heard about a tradition which seems so far way from our current world and the one I was brought up in. As I listened to their experience, my frustration evaporated and thoughts of living...

They did have a few more speciality things - like seeds from Europe. Wish I would have found the sale at Rite Aid first though - so letting readers know so they can take advantage of it! a new world for me
You know how when you start researching or thinking about something it starts showing it up everywhere? Like maybe you want a certain car and then every other car that drives by is that car? Well since we started actually digging and seed gathering and planting, I’ve noticed that a lot of people are into gardening or starting a garden. Maybe there have always been a lot of home gardeners and...

Fun on Friday night with CCP
Ander and I went to the Coastside Children’s Programs benefit last night and had a real blast. Miss Taara surprised us with her talent as a live auctioneer. She was dressed in her lovely exotic outfit she brought back from one of her trips to Thailand. Met up with Clifford and Leslie too. Leslie had on her beautiful yellow flower brocaded long coat, handmade by her Lebanese friend who owns a...

A Cube, Like Mecca’s, Becomes a Pilgrim
I just saw this article in the art section of the NYTimes and flashed back to 2 years ago when we saw the proposal by German artist Gregor Schneider for this piece when we were in Italy. It was rejected in Venice due to the political nature of the cube. It  was reflective of the black cube at the center of the Great Mosque in Mecca, known as the Kaaba. “Kaaba, which translates from the...

What happened "After the War"?
After the Warby Philip Kan Gotanda Directed by Carey Perloff Fillmore Street. San Francisco. 1946. A place to call home?
